St Oswalds Book Club has been running for many years and gathers on the first Monday of every month at Ashbourne Library. We meet from 10.00 a.m. until 11.00 a.m. in the main library, overlooking Shrovetide Walk and encourage everyone to bring a mug and a tea bag, taking ‘time-out’ as we discuss our latest ‘read’. We have 14 members as of January 2026.
The group is always looking for new authors to read, new titles to explore, old classics to re-visit. We liaise with our library representative Ruth to search for books that may be of interest to us, challenge us further, aware that getting numbers of copies may not always be possible. The group often shares copies, may download to a Kindle, resort to an audio book but we make it work for us.
The group is flexible, encourages discourse and offers friendship.
